Constitutional Law

The Charter of Freedom

Our Constitution is not just the document that charted the course for the freest nation in history, it inspired the world with the concept that government can serve rather than control.

The Constitution not only defines our nation, it shapes and limits our law, protects our liberty and ensures equality at law for every citizen.  It recognizes that liberty is not granted by government but is a birthright enjoyed by all Americans and that the proper role of government is to protect those rights.

John Howard & Ronald Rotunda

John Howard has, over thirty years, become a recognized expert in Constitutional law and individual rights.  He has worked in close collaboration with top Constitutional scholars, including the late Ronald Rotunda, in developing expertise in original intent, Constitutional history and the development of protection of individual liberty in our Constitutional system.

In litigation throughout the nation, our attorneys have pursued claims against governmental agencies and universities in defense of freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion.  We have successfully prosecuted dozens of nationally noted cases defending the rights of freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of expression. We have represented individuals and companies whose fundamental liberties have been threatened by institutions public and private.

John Howard brandished the First Amendment as if it were Excalibur.

Nat Hentoff – The Washington Post

Utilizing statutes making the First Amendment enforceable against public and private institutions, for example, John Howard has obtained orders restraining those institutions from further impingements on individual liberty, recovered fees for his clients and negotiated advantageous settlements on their behalf.

At the same time, Howard has written extensively about the natural rights of Americans, the Founding and the structure and meaning of the Constitution and Bill of Rights that protect those rights.  His writings have been featured in national publications and our cases have been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Washington Post, Time and on national news programs.

JW Howard attorneys have also developed specialties in the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth and Tenth Amendments and represented States, counties and municipalities in disputes involving State/federal relations.

JW Howard Attorneys has stood as a bulwark for Constitutionally protected individual liberty.
